August 31s,t 2016 was the last article I posted on His Leadership Her Trust.
Where have I been? What have I been doing? Why did I go radio silent?
I’ll get to that.
In August 2013, on my birthday weekend, I launched His Leadership Her Trust website as a blog about leadership and relationships. Super scissed.
Four months prior, I didn’t even know what a blog was. I had just finished a two-year process of researching and writing my book (untitled at the time). I was told by a popular blogger, “Ya know, if you want people to buy your book, you should write a blog and sell it to the people that follow you.”
“What’s a blog?” was my response.
A couple of weeks later, I invested in myself and my business and went down to Atlanta for a one-day blogging conference.
Completely! Blown! Away! You know that feeling when you’re the dumbest one in the room, but you don’t want anyone to know it. Yeah…that was me. The 25 bloggers at that conference of were killing it in the blogosphere. I had some catching up to do.
So I came home, built a website, wrote some articles based on the research of my book, and went live with His Leadership Her Trust on my birthday, August 10th.
I churned out articles for HLHT and another popular blog BlackandMarriedWithKids.com for two years. Then…BAM!!! I published my book in March 2015.
Amazon #1 bestseller! Your boy was all smiles and grins.
Simultaneously, the Relationship Bootcamp, a business my wife, Bernie, and I run, was blowing up. We were helping more couples than ever before. We partnered with churches, did couples retreats, took on clients for one-on-one consulting, and even got featured on Fox 5 News. Smiles and grins…baby…smiles and grins.
I was pursuing purpose…and loving it.
But while I was pursuing purpose and helping all these people…I wasn’t being refilled. It was like somebody pulled the plug out the drain in the bathtub and didn’t bother to turn on the water to keep it filled.
See…when you’ve been writing purposeful content that you know is going to make the difference in someone’s marriage staying together or separating (and believe me…I poured an average 4-hrs of research, writing, and editing into writing each of the 128 articles I wrote); marketing, promoting, and leading Relationship Bootcamps; promoting my book; doing speaking engagements; consulting with couples…trying to help save their relationships; plus writing for another blog; and mentoring young adults at church every Friday night from 7-11pm – all this…nonstop…for 3-years…DUDE!
I was mentally and emotionally drained and didn’t even know it. I just thought I was tired and needed to grind harder. So I did. Which open the drain all the way up.
Finally, I hit a wall. In August of 2016, I didn’t have anything else to say. I was nearly empty. The bath water was making that gurgling sound when it’s almost finished draining. I still had private clients and a couple of Bootcamps. I gave them the last of what I had.
And after that…I was done. Done with the whole blogging thing. Done with the Bootcamp thing. And done with the relationship consulting thing. So done…I talked with Bernie about us selling Fort Wiggins.
Have you ever been in a place where you know the purpose and call God has on your life, but you can’t bare the thought of fulfilling it. I had never been in this place before. That’s when I knew I needed to see a therapist…

#WednesdayWisdom #016: What Do Presidential Candidates and NCAA Basketball Have in Common with Successful Relationships
Let’s talk sports and politics. It looks like the race for the presidency is on its way to a collision-course between Trump vs. Clinton. At the same time, the NCAA basketball race is about to get March-maddening. With all the candidates and teams represented, I’m sure...
#WednesdayWisdom #015: Domestic Violence in the Church Can’t Always Be Prayed Away…
I already completed today’s #WednesdayWisdom. All I had to do was proofread and post. Then I saw this report about gospel singer, James Fortune’s, guilty plea to third degree felony assault for assaulting his wife back in 2014. Given my last rant about Israel...
#WednesdayWisdom #014: CHRISTIANS: Stop Being Afraid to Judge Others According to God’s Principles and Truths
Last week, I posted a Facebook article about gospel singer, Israel Houghton’s, divorce from his wife of 20 years. I commented about my disappointment that he didn’t fight hard enough to save his marriage. I’m not going to reiterate my position (you can read my...
#WednesdayWisdom #013: MEN…Don’t Be Eaten Alive By A Strong Black Woman
After Jill Scott's said this, every man needs to read the book His Leadership Her Trust if you don't want to be EATEN ALIVE by a strong black woman. It's not a game. Strong black women are not to be trifled with. They have been forged through the burning sands of...
#WednesdayWisdom #012: The Absolute Best Explanation of What His Leadership Her Trust Means
Happy #WednesdayWisdom!!! When I came up with the name ‘His Leadership Her Trust’ for my blog in 2013, I knew a lot of people would attach their own understanding to what 'His Leadership' means…and the conditions under which ‘Her Trust’ applies. That’s fair. I...
#WednesdayWisdom #011: Is Beyoncé’s ‘Formation’ the new ‘Say it Loud, I’m Black and I’m Proud’?
FINALLY! I’ve been waiting for one of our mega-popular R&B, pop, or rap stars make a song that speaks to the racial, social, and political problems ailing the African American community. I’m glad it was the biggest diva of them all. Beyoncé performed her new...
