I mourn today at the death of Dr. Myles Munroe, Ruth Munroe (wife), and everyone that died in the tragic plane crash at the Grand Bahamas airport.

Dr. Munroe was a great inspiration to me at a transformational stage in my life. I first became aware of him around 1993. I was 23 and two years out of college with a degree in Business Management. The fashion design business I started (plan A) had just failed. My real estate investing business (plan B), stock investment strategies (plan C), and other entrepreneurial endeavors (plans D-F) had all gone up in smoke.

I felt like…the life I dreamed and planned for was not the life I was supposed to have.

That’s when my pastor preached a sermon-series entitled Pursuit of Purpose, taken from Dr. Myles Munroe’s book In Pursuit of Purpose.Myles Munroe

It was life changing. I learned God has a purpose for everyone. And to discover your purpose, you have to ask God, who created you. Otherwise, you will pursue, in vain, endeavors you are not purposed to accomplish.

That was exactly what I was doing.

So I shut it down. I decided to stop planning my life and give God’s purpose a try.

Seven years later, at age 30, the entrepreneurial bug started biting me again. I wanted to start a business, but I didn’t know what to do. That’s when my wife of three years reminded me, “What about that dream you had about a pre-marital boot camp for engaged couples?”

Instantly, it was like God flicked-on the light switch to the purpose he wanted me to pursue. In 2000, I incorporated the Family Bootcamp and started pursuing my purpose.

Thank you Dr. Myles Monroe for your life, leadership, and legacy. You influenced me through your many books, sermons, conferences, and videos.

I once heard you say, (paraphrased) ‘You know how I know God still has a purpose for me? Because I ain’t dead yet.’ Although November 9, 2014 was the day your purpose ended, it also gave birth to the legacy of a true leader who lived a life that led people to God to find their purpose. And that’s definitely something worth dying for.
