A Qool-Couple is a couple that is confident in who they are…and who they are not. They strive to pursue their own purpose and passions…and support the passionate pursuit of others. They are proud of what they have…without being boastful. And content with what they don’t have…without being envious. These couples are so Qool…you have to spell it with a Q!
So I’m proud to recognize some Qool-Couples I admire – some living and some long since gone.
My all-time favorite Qool-Couple is in the bible. They are Priscilla and Aquila. They get my #QoolCouple Award because they knew what their purpose was as a family – and they OWNED IT!
This couple shows up on the scene in the Apostle Paul’s second missionary journey to Corinth (Acts 18). Priscilla and Aquila’s purpose was to help preachers of the early church. They opened up their home to Paul and showed him great hospitality by allowing him to stay there a year and a half while he worked as a tent-maker by day and preached in the synagogue at night.
When Paul left and went to Ephesus, they went with him. While there, they came across a young preacher named Apollos. He was learnt in the scripture, but only preached about the baptism of John – and not Jesus. So Priscilla and Aquila invited him into their new home and taught him about the scriptures more thoroughly. After they mentored him, Apollos went out…and was able to vigorously refuted the Jews in public debate and prove that Jesus was the Christ.
There are additional accounts recorded of Priscilla and Aquila’s showing hospitality to preachers and evangelists as they passed through their town. They repeatedly welcomed them into their home, provided them support, and even allowed churches to meet in their home (Romans 16:3-5; 1 Corinthians 16:19). This wonderful couple inspires me because they were very clear on what their purpose was and their life reflected it.
Is it important to know what the purpose of your marriage is? I think so. The entire scope and context of your marriage cascades down from that purpose…to the lives of the people you positively affect.
Are you a Qool-Couple too? What is your purpose as a married or engaged couple…as a family. It doesn’t have to be the same as Priscilla and Aquila. It doesn’t have to be the same as mine. What do you get excited about helping other people do? Please share! For the pursuit of your purpose just might motivate someone else to pursue theirs.
Well said Heath!! It is definitely important to know your purpose in Marriage. Keeping God in the forefront is sooooooo important!
